Ethel Smyth – Serenade in D

Dvořák – Symphony no. 8

Conductor – Rebecca Miller

The music of pioneering composer Dame Ethel Smyth has recently come to prominence thanks to the Suffragette Centenary, of which she was a key figure. Her Serenade in D is a work most worthy of discovery, her first major composition, whose title belies a work of symphonic proportions. Then after the interval, enjoy the Eighth Symphony of the great master of melody Antonin Dvořák, perhaps the most joyous of all Romantic Symphonies.

Memorial Hall, Bishop’s Stortford College, CM23 2PJ
