February Side-by-Side Concert – Student Information

Bishop’s Stortford Sinfonia is partnering with Bishop’s Stortford College and schools across Hertfordshire and the surrounding area to offer an opportunity for young musicians to come spend a day learning and performing along-side local professional musicians. This is a new initiative led by the Sinfonia and part of our growing engagement with the local community to help spread awareness and enjoyment of music, to people of all ages.

On 10th February, the combined Sinfonia and student orchestra (with students being allocated based on proficiency level) will be performing the following programme.

  • FAIYA by Ayanna Witter-Johnson (from Grade 3 and up)
  • Bamboula by Samuel Coleridge Taylor (from Grade 5 and up)
  • Appalachian Spring by Aaron Copland (from Grade 7 and up)

Rehearsals will take place at Bishop’s Stortford College, dates and timings are below:

  • Saturday 3rd February (students only in BSC Recital Room)
    • 9:00-10:15 – FAIYA! Rehearsal (all students)
    • 10:45-12:00 – Bamboula Rehearsal (Intermediate students and above)
    • 12:00-13:00 – Lunch Break (please bring lunch)
    • 13:00-15:00 – Appalachian Spring Rehearsal (Advanced students only)
  • Saturday 10th February (Students and BSS in Memorial Hall)
    • 12:00-13:30 – Appalachian Spring Rehearsal (Advanced students only)
    • 13:30-14:30 – Lunch Break (please bring lunch)
    • 14:30-15:15 – Bamboula Rehearsal (Intermediate students and above)
    • 15:15-16:00 – FAIYA! Rehearsal (all students)
