Returning to the Memorial Hall at Bishop’s Stortford College, Bishop’s Stortford Sinfonia brings its 11th season to a thrilling close with an inspiring Sunday afternoon of live orchestral music.
The concert opens with Dora Pejačević’s dramatic Overture in D minor, introducing the music of one of the early twentieth century’s most remarkable and unjustly overlooked composers. Brahms’s beloved Variations on a Theme of Joseph Haydn follows, transforming a simple chorale into a dazzling display of orchestral colour and imagination. Crowning both the afternoon and the season is Jean Sibelius’s magnificent Symphony No. 2 – a work of sweeping lyricism, breathtaking power and unforgettable grandeur, widely regarded as one of the greatest symphonies ever written.
An inspiring Sunday afternoon of live orchestral music, celebrating tradition, imagination and the enduring power of the symphony orchestra.
