From Fury to Serenity
Saturday 17th January 2026, 7:00pm

Continuing the Sinfonia’s 2025/26 season of journeys through sound and spirit, this January concert moves from turmoil to tranquillity, and from rediscovery to timeless celebration. We open with Anna Clyne’s Sound and Fury, a visceral work inspired by Shakespeare that brims with drama, contrast, and striking orchestral colour. The spotlight then turns to the talented cellist Carolina del Nero Lopez, performing Marie Jaëll’s lyrical and rarely-heard Cello Concerto. A student of Liszt and a pioneer in her own right, Jaëll’s music combines Romantic passion with dazzling virtuosity.
The evening comes to rest in Beethoven’s beloved Symphony No. 6, the “Pastorale”, a work overflowing with birdsong, rustic dances, and the serenity of the natural world. It is Beethoven at his most human and heartfelt: music that reminds us of the peace and joy to be found in nature’s embrace. Join us as the Sinfonia leads you from storm to serenity, in a programme that celebrates renewal, discovery, and the enduring bond between music and nature.
