Saturday 16th May , 7:00pm
As Bishop’s Stortford Sinfonia brings its 10th anniversary season to a close, this special concert celebrates both the orchestra’s journey over the past decade and the vibrant musical community that continues to inspire it.
This evening opens with Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s dramatic Othello Suite, performed side-by-side with talented local music students. This collaboration offers young musicians from Bishop’s Stortford and the surrounding area the opportunity to share the stage with the Sinfonia, highlighting the next generation of orchestral talent and reflecting the orchestra’s commitment to supporting music-making in the community.
In the 2nd half, the Sinfonia takes centre stage for Sergei Rachmaninoff’s masterpiece, Symphony No. 2. Rich in sweeping melodies and emotional depth, this much-loved masterpiece stands as one of the great Romantic symphonies. From its brooding opening to its soaring climaxes and unforgettable lyrical moments, the symphony provides a thrilling and heartfelt conclusion to the Sinfonia’s anniversary year.
